Product detailed description

Smart irrigation for two zones with a single smart valve 💧

Sonoff Hydro DUO (model SWV-ZF2E, also listed as SWVZF2E) is a dual-channel Zigbee irrigation valve, a smart water valve for automatic garden watering that you screw straight onto your outdoor tap. One water supply feeds two separate outlets, so a sprinkler can water the lawn in the morning and drip irrigation can water the beds in the evening, each on its own schedule.

The built-in flow meter measures water from 2 to 45 l/min, so you can water not just by time but by exact volume. The valve communicates via Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth, you control it from the eWeLink app at home or on holiday, and it remembers its schedules even without internet.

Traditional garden watering timers are set through a small display and a few buttons, and when the weather changes you have to walk over to them. Hydro DUO moves all the settings to your phone: the clear app shows both zones, their schedules and the current valve status, and you start or stop watering with a single tap wherever you are.

Controlling the Hydro DUO smart valve from a mobile app instead of a traditional timer

Each of the two zones has its own settings. If the lawn uses a higher-flow sprinkler and the greenhouse only slow drip irrigation, you set a different amount of water and a different time for each zone. One smart water valve replaces two separate irrigation timers and works as a simple irrigation controller for the whole garden.

Connect whatever you need to the outlets: a drip hose for beds and tomatoes, a sprinkler for the lawn, micro-irrigation for pots on the terrace. Keep in mind that the outlets are programmed independently but cannot run at the same time. Schedule the two zones one after another, for example the lawn from 5:00 and the beds from 6:00.

Installation needs no tools. You screw the brass inlet with its G3/4" thread (3/4 inch, BSP) onto the tap by hand, and the anti-slip surface helps you tighten it firmly. The outlets have quick connectors for standard garden hoses. The manufacturer recommends mounting it vertically, as a horizontally mounted valve measures flow less accurately.

Choose the power supply to suit the location: 4 AA batteries last about a year in normal use (twice a day for 30 minutes), or connect USB-C 5 V, for example from a solar panel with its own battery. If both sources are connected, the valve uses USB-C first. Batteries are not included.

You can create up to 6 schedules per zone, 12 in total. Each schedule can run by time (for example 20 minutes) or by volume (for example 50 litres). In volume mode you also set a time limit: if low pressure prevents the target amount from being delivered, the valve closes so it does not delay the other schedules.

Irrigation schedules by time or water volume in the eWeLink app

Seasonal adjustment saves you from rewriting schedules every month. Enter a multiplier for each month, for example 60 % in April and 130 % in July, and the valve automatically shortens or extends watering. Note: before frost, remove the valve, drain the water and store it indoors.

Seasonal adjustment of water amount for each month

The valve can also react to the weather. Based on the probability of rain, humidity and temperature, it automatically skips schedules for the next 24 hours, so you do not water before a storm. The feature uses third-party weather data and works in Zigbee mode (with a gateway). You can also postpone watering manually with Rain Delay.

Smart irrigation valve skips watering before rain

Several protections keep things safe. When the flow drops below 5 l/min, the valve reports a water shortage and can close itself. If water keeps flowing after the valve has closed, it sends a leak alert. It also warns about low battery and frost risk, and the child lock disables the buttons on the device while app control keeps working.

The app shows water usage and watering duration for each zone separately, by day, by month and for the last 6 months, and you can download the data. You will see at once which part of the garden uses the most water and can adjust the schedules based on real numbers.

For full functionality (remote access, automations, weather) you need a Zigbee gateway, for example Sonoff Zigbee Bridge Ultra or Sonoff Zigbee Bridge PRO. Without a gateway, you control it locally via Bluetooth from a phone nearby. Find more devices for your garden and home in the Smarthome products category.

Protocols and compatibility

  • Zigbee 3.0: the main protocol, range up to 130 m in open space. You need a Zigbee gateway; the manufacturer recommends Zigbee Bridge Ultra, Zigbee Bridge PRO, NSPanel Pro or iHost.
  • Bluetooth (BLE, proximity mode): basic control and setup from the eWeLink app without a gateway when you are near the valve.
  • eWeLink: with a Sonoff gateway, all features including weather, automations, notifications and sharing.
  • Home Assistant + Zigbee2MQTT: supported via a compatible coordinator (manual control, schedules, Rain Delay, seasonal adjustment, history, child lock).
  • Home Assistant + ZHA: currently works only with an additional script from the manufacturer; available features may differ from eWeLink.
  • Apple Home and Matter: the valve is not a native Matter device; you add it to Apple Home through the Matter Bridge feature of Zigbee Bridge Ultra, iHost or eWeLink CUBE.
  • Google Home: via cloud integration with eWeLink (a Sonoff gateway is required).
  • Amazon Alexa and SmartThings: direct Zigbee connection to selected Echo devices with a Zigbee hub and to the Aeotec Smart Home Hub V3.

Why choose Sonoff Hydro DUO

  • One valve for two zones instead of two timers, at a lower price and with one app.
  • Watering by the litre, not just by the minute, with usage tracking for each zone.
  • Saves water thanks to weather and seasonal adjustments, and schedules run even without internet.

Compared with Sonoff Hydro ONE, you get a second outlet and can water two parts of the garden on separate schedules. If one zone is enough and you do not need to measure water, go for the cheaper Sonoff Hydro ONE Lite.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Zigbee gateway for Hydro DUO?+

Not necessarily. Without a gateway, you control it via Bluetooth from a phone nearby, and schedules run locally. For remote control, notifications, automations and weather-based watering you need a Zigbee gateway, for example Sonoff Zigbee Bridge Ultra or Bridge PRO.

Can both zones water at the same time?+

No. The outlets are programmed independently, but the valve design does not allow both to open at once. Set the schedules of the two zones to run one after another.

What is the difference between SWV-ZF2E and SWV-ZF2U?+

The features are identical; only the thread differs. SWV-ZF2E has a European G3/4" thread (BSP, G3/4-14) and suits Europe. SWV-ZF2U has a US NH3/4-11.5 thread. We sell the SWV-ZF2E version.

Will the valve fit my garden tap?+

The inlet has a 3/4 inch female thread (G3/4"), the most common size on garden taps. For a tap with a 1/2" thread, use a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter.

How long do the batteries last?+

About a year in normal use (twice a day for 30 minutes). With continuous use as a flow meter, battery life drops to roughly a month; in that case we recommend powering the valve via USB-C. The 4x AA batteries are not included.

Water is flowing, but the valve shows “No Water” and closes. Why?+

The valve treats a flow below 5 l/min as a water shortage. If this happens often, increase the flow (open the tap further, check the hose or filter) or change the valve behaviour on water shortage in the settings.

Will irrigation run without internet?+

Yes. All schedules are stored directly on the valve, so they run even during a Wi-Fi or internet outage. Only weather-forecast adjustment will not work without a connection.

Does Hydro DUO work with Home Assistant?+

Yes. Most features, including schedules and history, are supported via Zigbee2MQTT. In ZHA you currently need an additional script from the manufacturer, available in its documentation.

Can I add the valve to Apple Home or Google Home?+

To Apple Home through Matter Bridge in Zigbee Bridge Ultra, iHost or eWeLink CUBE. To Google Home through the cloud integration with eWeLink, with the valve added via a Sonoff gateway.

Can I leave the valve outside over winter?+

No. The IP65 rating protects against rain and water jets, but not against frost. Before frost, remove the valve, drain the water and store it indoors. The frost alert will remind you in time.

Does the valve reduce water pressure?+

Slightly. Because of the built-in flow meter, pressure can drop by about 10 %. At normal mains pressure this has no significant effect on sprinklers or drip irrigation. Pressure fluctuations do not affect the accuracy of volume measurement.

Can I connect it to drinking water or install it the other way round?+

The manufacturer does not recommend using it on a drinking water system; the valve is designed for garden irrigation from the mains. Reverse installation (for example a tap on the outlet) is not supported; follow the water flow direction marked on the device.
