Product detailed description

Smart Shelly Gen4 0-10V dimmer with power metering and Matter and Zigbee support

Shelly Dimmer 0/1-10V PM Gen4 is a compact smart 0-10V dimmer that controls dimmable LED drivers with a 0-10 V or 1-10 V input. You install it in a wall box behind your existing switch or in a ceiling, turning ordinary LED lighting into a fully smart light: dim it with the wall button, in the app, by voice or automatically by time of day, sunrise and sunset.

Compared with the previous generation, the fourth generation adds Wi-Fi 6, Zigbee and Matter in a single module. The built-in relay output with power metering fully cuts power to the LED driver when switched off and shows you how much energy your lighting really uses.

Shelly Dimmer 0/1-10V PM Gen4, smart 0-10V dimmer with power metering

The principle is simple: the module does not dim the mains voltage like a classic dimmer, it sends the LED driver a 0 to 10 V control signal. The driver then smoothly adjusts the brightness without flicker or buzzing. That makes this 0-10V lighting controller ideal for LED panels, linear luminaires, LED strips with a 0-10V driver and professional lighting in offices, shops and restaurants. The signal can also control other devices with a 0-10V input, such as valves or motors.

Everyday control stays the way you know it. Connect one or two existing push buttons to inputs S1 and S2: with one button, a short press switches and a long press dims; with two buttons, one raises and the other lowers the brightness. In the Shelly Smart Control app you set the minimum and maximum brightness, fade rate and transition time, so the light comes on exactly as gently as you want.

Thanks to the ESP32-C6 chip and 8 MB of memory, this Wi-Fi dimmer handles advanced features without the cloud: 20 schedules, night mode with reduced brightness, auto on and off, scripts, webhooks, MQTT and KNXnet/IP. Automations run locally in the module, so they keep working even when the internet goes down.

Compatibility is key in a smart home. Out of the box the module runs in Matter mode, so you can add it to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and SmartThings without an extra hub. If you build on a Zigbee network, switch it to Zigbee 3.0 mode and it will also act as a repeater that extends the range of your other Shelly Zigbee devices. This smart dimmer also works as a Bluetooth gateway for Shelly BLU sensors and as a Wi-Fi range extender.

The manufacturer model code is S4DM-0010WW, also listed as S4DM0010WW.

Protocols and compatibility

  • Matter (default mode): Matter over Wi-Fi works right out of the box: add it to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa or SmartThings. Your ecosystem needs its own Matter controller (e.g. Apple TV/HomePod, Google Nest Hub).
  • Zigbee 3.0: after switching the profile (press the button on the module 5 times) it pairs with a Zigbee coordinator or gateway, for example from our Zigbee control units category. Matter and Zigbee always run one at a time. Check support in Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA for your version before buying.
  • Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 b/g/n/ax, 2.4 GHz): local and cloud control via the Shelly Smart Control app and web interface, no hub needed.
  • Bluetooth 5.0: quick initial setup from your phone and a gateway for Shelly BLU sensors and buttons.
  • Home Assistant: native Shelly integration with local communication over Wi-Fi, or via Matter or Zigbee.
  • Amazon Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings: also via the Shelly cloud link if you don't want to use Matter.
  • Local API: HTTP (RPC), MQTT, webhooks, UDP and KNXnet/IP for integration into building automation.

Why choose the Shelly Dimmer 0/1-10V PM Gen4

  • One small module turns ordinary 0-10V LED lighting into a smart light that works with every major ecosystem.
  • Power metering and a relay that fully disconnects the LED driver save energy even in standby.
  • Automations run locally, so the light responds even without internet.

Compared with its predecessor, the Shelly Dimmer 0/1-10V PM Gen3, you also get Zigbee 3.0, Wi-Fi 6 and Matter straight from the factory. If your fixtures have no 0-10V input (dimmable bulbs and 230V LEDs), choose the classic phase-cut dimmer Shelly Dimmer Gen4.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a 0-10V dimmer and a classic dimmer?+

A classic (phase-cut) dimmer changes the 230 V mains voltage going to the fixture. A 0-10V dimmer does not dim the mains voltage; it sends the LED driver a low-voltage 0 to 10 V control signal and the driver itself sets the brightness. It therefore works only with drivers that have a 0-10V or 1-10V input (DIM+ and DIM− terminals).

How do I know if my fixture supports 0-10V dimming?+

Check the label on the LED driver. If it says “0-10V”, “1-10V” or has DIM+/DIM− terminals (or purple and grey wires), it is compatible. Drivers marked only “DALI” or “TRIAC” need a different type of dimmer.

Do I need a neutral wire?+

Yes. The module is powered from the L and N terminals, so the wall box must have both live and neutral wires. Installation should be done by a qualified electrician.

What is the O relay output for?+

The LED driver is powered through the relay output. When you switch the light off, the relay disconnects the driver from the mains completely, so there is no standby consumption, and with 0-10V drivers that still glow faintly at zero signal the light really goes out. The module also measures consumption on this output.

Can I keep my original switches?+

Yes. Connect one or two push buttons to inputs S1 and S2. With one button, a short press switches on and off and a long press dims. With two buttons, one raises and the other lowers the brightness.

Does the dimmer work with Apple Home?+

Yes, via Matter. The module ships in Matter mode, so just scan the QR code in the Home app. You need an Apple home hub, i.e. an Apple TV or HomePod.

How do I switch the module from Matter to Zigbee mode?+

Press the button on the module 5 times in a row. The module switches to the Zigbee profile and starts pairing mode for 3 minutes, during which you add it to your Zigbee gateway. Matter and Zigbee cannot run at the same time.

The module won't pair, what should I do?+

Make sure your phone is on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is on. Holding the button for 5 seconds enables the access point and Bluetooth; holding it for 10 seconds restores factory settings. For Zigbee, check that the module is in the Zigbee profile and your gateway is in pairing mode.

Does the dimmer work without internet?+

Yes. Buttons, schedules, night mode and scripts all run locally in the module. You only need internet for remote control via the cloud and for updates.

How does Gen4 differ from the Shelly Dimmer 0/1-10V PM Gen3?+

Gen4 adds Zigbee 3.0, Wi-Fi 6 and Matter straight from the factory and also works as a Zigbee repeater. Gen3 communicates only over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and got Matter later via a firmware update.

Can it control something other than lights?+

Yes. The 0-10 V control signal can also drive motors, valves or fans with a 0-10V input, as long as the control circuit draws no more than 35 mA.

Do I need a hub or a subscription?+

No. It connects directly to your router over Wi-Fi and the Shelly Smart Control app is free. You only need a gateway if you want to use it on a Zigbee network.

The Shelly brand is probably the most groundbreaking brand in the field of smart home products these days. New products that come out of this manufacturer's workshop every month complement smart homes not only on the WiFi protocol, but also on Z-Wave. Shelly has everything from relays, dimmers and sensors to energy consumption meters in its portfolio.

Among the very distinctive products of this brand are Shelly Mini modules, which are the smallest modules on the market. They are available in both WiFi and Z-Wave versions.
