NOUS H1Z smart radiator valve: heat exactly when you need it 

NOUS H1Z is a wireless smart thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) head that replaces the ordinary mechanical head on your radiator. Instead of turning a dial blindly, you set an exact temperature and the valve head regulates the water flow through the radiator to keep the room within 0.5 °C of it.

It communicates over the energy-efficient Zigbee 3.0 protocol, so the batteries last about a year, and you control it in the NOUS Smart Home app, by voice or directly on the radiator. Every room can have its own temperature and its own schedule.

The biggest advantage of a smart radiator valve is that it heats according to your day, not according to when you remember to turn the dial. In the 7-day schedule you can set the bathroom to 22 °C in the morning, 17 °C during the day while you are out, and a comfortable 20 °C in the bedroom in the evening. The valve thinks for you, too. When you open a window to air the room and the temperature drops by 6 °C within 4 minutes, open window detection closes the valve automatically, so you do not heat the outdoors. The anti-scale function moves the valve for 30 seconds every two weeks so it does not seize up over the summer. Even after a whole season without heating, the radiator starts up normally.  

The valve has an LED display showing the set temperature and status icons (low battery, heating, schedule, connection) and a rotary knob, so everyone in the family can use it without a phone. If you have children at home, turn on the child lock, which locks the controls on the valve. Frost protection: automatically starts heating if the room temperature drops below 5 °C, which is handy in a cottage or garage, for example.

You can install it yourself, without tools and without draining the system. Unscrew the old head and screw the new one onto the standard M30 × 1.5 thread, and if you have a Danfoss RA, Caleffi or Giacomini valve, use one of the three adapters in the box. Protocols and compatibility

• Zigbee 3.0 (IEEE 802.15.4): the valve has no Wi-Fi, so you need a Zigbee gateway to connect it, e.g. NOUS E1/E7/E15 or another Tuya compatible gateway such as the MOES ZHUB-W.
• NOUS Smart Home / Tuya / Smart Life app: control, weekly schedules and settings from your phone (Android 4.4 and iOS 8 or later).
• Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant: voice control by linking the app with your voice assistant.
• Home Assistant: the valve supports Zigbee2MQTT, so you can add it to Home Assistant, for example with the NOUS E16 USB dongle. According to the manufacturer, the ZHA integration is not supported yet.
