Product detailed description

Sonoff Dongle Plus CC2674P10 Zigbee coordinator and Thread adapter for a fully local smart home

Sonoff Dongle-PP10 (Dongle Plus CC2674P10, also listed in shops as Dongle PP10) is a Zigbee and Thread USB adapter that turns your Home Assistant server, mini PC or Raspberry Pi into the hub of your whole smart home. Plug it into a USB port and it works out of the box as a Zigbee coordinator for ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT, so you control sensors, switches and bulbs from different brands locally, without the cloud and without depending on the manufacturer's app.

Compared to its popular predecessor ZBDongle-P, it brings the new Texas Instruments CC2674P10 chip with three times the memory, a more powerful processor, native Thread support and a more compact aluminium body that does not block neighbouring USB ports.

The dongle is the core of open smart home platforms: it joins Zigbee or Thread devices of different categories and brands into one network, for example Sonoff, Aqara, IKEA, Philips Hue or Tuya. Instead of five different gateways from five brands, you only need one small USB stick and one system in which you set up and automate everything.

The adapter is ready to use right away with Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT and OpenThread Border Router (OTBR). If you don't have anything to run Home Assistant on yet, the ideal match is Home Assistant Green with a preinstalled system, into which you simply plug the dongle.

Under the aluminium housing runs a 48 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 processor with 1024 KB of flash and 256 KB of RAM. In practice, this Zigbee USB stick handles even a larger network with dozens of sensors and switches talking at the same time without hesitation. Arm TrustZone hardware security also improves resistance to attacks at chip level.

Range is provided by an adjustable external antenna (90° vertical, 180° horizontal) with 3 dBi gain, which rises to up to 4.5 dBi with proper orientation and channel selection. Together with transmit power of up to 20 dBm, the manufacturer states a range of up to 200 m in line of sight and better wall penetration.

The package includes a 1 m USB extension cable. This matters: USB 3.0 ports, SSD drives and the Raspberry Pi itself emit interference in the 2.4 GHz band, which is the most common cause of an unstable Zigbee network. Moving the dongle a little away from the computer makes the network noticeably more reliable.

The aluminium alloy body is light and compact, about 30 % smaller than the ZBDongle-P, so it does not cover neighbouring ports. The manufacturer verified its durability with a 24-hour salt spray test, 100 firmware flashing cycles, 20 electrostatic discharge tests and more than 500 USB insertions.

Its biggest advantage is flexibility. With one click in the web tool SONOFF Dongle Flasher you change the role the dongle plays in the network: Zigbee coordinator (preinstalled Z-Stack firmware), Zigbee router to extend the network, or Thread RCP to connect Matter over Thread devices via OTBR. If you build on Zigbee today and want to try Thread tomorrow, you don't need to buy new hardware.

You can flash firmware in three ways: via the web flasher in your browser, via Docker or directly as a Home Assistant add-on. The manufacturer also runs a dedicated site with guides and troubleshooting at dongle.sonoff.tech.

If you want to bring Zigbee devices into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings, the dongle also works with the free local system eWeLink CUBE, which bridges Zigbee devices into the Matter network. You will find suitable devices in the categories Zigbee products and Matter Smart Home.

Who is the Sonoff Dongle-PP10 for

  • For Home Assistant users who want a stable Zigbee coordinator for ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT.
  • For owners of the older ZBDongle-P whose network has outgrown it and who want a more powerful successor with easy migration.
  • For households with a mix of devices from different brands (Sonoff, Aqara, IKEA, Hue, Tuya) who want one shared gateway instead of several.
  • For those who value privacy and want a cloud-free smart home.
  • For enthusiasts who want to experiment with Thread and Matter through their own OpenThread Border Router.

Use cases 💡

  • Zigbee coordinator for Home Assistant on Raspberry Pi: plug in the dongle via the extension cable, select the port in ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT and start pairing sensors.
  • Replacing ZBDongle-P with a more powerful adapter: in ZHA you move the whole network by migration without re-pairing devices.
  • Zigbee router for a distant part of the house: with router firmware and powered from a USB charger, it extends the network to the garage, basement or workshop.
  • Thread network for Matter devices: with OpenThread RCP firmware and OTBR you connect Matter over Thread devices directly to Home Assistant.
  • Local control without the cloud: automations for lights, heating and sensors keep running at home even during an internet outage.
  • Zigbee devices in Apple Home: together with eWeLink CUBE you bridge Zigbee sensors and switches into Matter.

Protocols and compatibility

  • Zigbee 3.0 (IEEE 802.15.4): coordinator with Z-Stack firmware out of the box, Zigbee router after reflashing.
  • Thread / Matter over Thread: works after flashing OpenThread RCP firmware and only together with a host running OpenThread Border Router (OTBR). The dongle always performs only one role at a time; Zigbee and Thread do not run simultaneously on a single unit.
  • Home Assistant (ZHA): supported as a TI Z-Stack adapter. Home Assistant allows only one ZHA integration, so one dongle for ZHA.
  • Zigbee2MQTT: supported as a zstack adapter type, also suitable for connecting to other systems via MQTT.
  • Other systems: according to the manufacturer ioBroker, Domoticz, openHAB and other platforms supporting TI Zigbee adapters.
  • eWeLink CUBE: a free local system that bridges Zigbee devices via Matter into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant.
  • Devices: works with most Zigbee devices (Sonoff, Aqara, Philips Hue, IKEA, Tuya and more). Actual support depends on the platform used, not the dongle itself. Browse the selection in the category Zigbee Hubs & Gateways.
  • Operating systems: Windows, Ubuntu, Raspberry Pi OS and Docker; the CP210x driver is built into Linux by default.

Why choose the Sonoff Dongle Plus CC2674P10

  • Performance headroom for years: three times the memory of the ZBDongle-P means a stable network even with many devices.
  • Future-ready: Zigbee today, Thread and Matter tomorrow, just change the firmware.
  • Proven TI Z-Stack ecosystem: the same chip family as the popular ZBDongle-P, with easy migration in ZHA.
  • Everything in the box: antenna and extension cable included, nothing else to buy.

If you prefer a Silicon Labs chip (EmberZNet firmware), choose the Sonoff Dongle Plus MG24. If you want to place the coordinator in the middle of the house away from the server and power it via a network cable, go for the Sonoff Dongle Max with PoE. The Dongle-PP10 is the best choice for everyone who wants to stay with the proven TI Z-Stack and get significantly more powerful hardware.

Frequently asked questions

How do I connect the Sonoff Dongle-PP10 to Home Assistant? +

Plug the dongle into the server's USB port using the included extension cable. Home Assistant usually detects it automatically and offers to add the ZHA integration. In Zigbee2MQTT set the adapter type to zstack and the port path (e.g. /dev/serial/by-id/…). The coordinator firmware is preinstalled, so no flashing is needed.

Can the dongle run Zigbee and Thread at the same time? +

No. Zigbee and Thread use the same radio, so the dongle performs only the role of the installed firmware at any time: Zigbee coordinator, Zigbee router or Thread RCP. If you want both networks at once, you need two adapters.

How do I add Thread and Matter devices? +

Use SONOFF Dongle Flasher to flash the OpenThread RCP firmware and connect the dongle to a host running OpenThread Border Router (e.g. the OTBR add-on in Home Assistant). Then you can add Matter over Thread devices.

How do I check the firmware version and update it? +

Use the official SONOFF Dongle Flasher, available as a web tool in the browser, as a Docker container or as a Home Assistant add-on. It shows the current firmware and flashes a newer or different type with one click.

Can the Dongle-PP10 be used as a Zigbee router to boost the signal? +

Yes. After flashing the router firmware, just power it from any USB charger and it extends the Zigbee network to more distant rooms. In the network it shows up as a light bulb, which is expected behaviour.

How does the Dongle-PP10 differ from the older ZBDongle-P? +

Instead of the CC2652P chip it uses the newer CC2674P10 with three times the flash and RAM and a more powerful Cortex-M33 processor with TrustZone. It adds native Thread support, a stronger adjustable antenna (up to 4.5 dBi) and an aluminium housing about 30 % slimmer.

Can I move my network from ZBDongle-P without re-pairing devices? +

In ZHA yes, Home Assistant supports one-click adapter migration. In Zigbee2MQTT migration is possible via backup and restore. OTBR configuration cannot be migrated. Migration options depend on the platform, not the dongle itself.

Can I run ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT on one dongle? +

Not on one, choose one of them. Two dongles on one computer do work: one for ZHA and the other for Zigbee2MQTT, as long as each network uses a different Zigbee channel (ZHA defaults to 15, Zigbee2MQTT to 11).

What is the USB extension cable in the box for? +

USB 3.0 ports, SSD drives and single-board computers themselves (e.g. Raspberry Pi) emit interference in the 2.4 GHz band. The 1 m cable lets you place the dongle further from the source of interference, which greatly improves Zigbee network stability.

Devices won't pair or keep dropping out, what can I do? +

First move the dongle away from the computer and USB 3.0 ports using the extension cable, adjust the antenna and check that the Zigbee channel doesn't clash with Wi-Fi. Then update the firmware to the latest version via SONOFF Dongle Flasher. For battery sensors it also helps to add at least one Zigbee router to the network (e.g. a smart plug or a switch with neutral).

What is the difference between the Dongle-PP10 and the Dongle Plus MG24? +

Both are powerful Zigbee and Thread USB adapters; they differ in the chip maker. The Dongle-PP10 uses Texas Instruments with Z-Stack firmware (zstack type in Zigbee2MQTT), the Dongle Plus MG24 uses Silicon Labs with EmberZNet firmware (ember type). If you are upgrading from ZBDongle-P, the PP10 keeps you in the same chip family.

Does the dongle work with Apple Home or Google Home? +

Not directly, it needs a controlling system. With the free eWeLink CUBE, however, you can bridge Zigbee devices via Matter into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings. Devices from Home Assistant can likewise be exposed through its integrations.
