SmartWise BT4 Bluetooth keyfob: 4 buttons to control your smart home

SmartWise BT4 is a wireless eWeLink-Remote remote control in a keyfob format. Using Bluetooth Low Energy technology, it directly controls SmartWise devices with a built-in eWeLink-Remote receiver: relays, wall switches, smart bulbs, an irrigation valve and a garage door controller. Each of the four buttons A, B, C and D can be assigned to a different device, so one small remote lets you turn on a light, open the gate and start the irrigation.

The remote communicates with the receiver directly, without a router, without the internet and without a phone in your hand. When the Wi-Fi goes down or you don't have your phone with you, pressing the button still works.

The biggest advantage over classic 433 MHz RF remotes is range. According to the manufacturer, Bluetooth eWeLink-Remote reaches two to three times the distance, 70 to 80 metres in open space without obstacles. In practice, you can open the gate from your car out on the street and start the irrigation from the far end of the garden. Inside a building, through walls and ceilings, the range is naturally shorter, but still much better than with ordinary radio keyfobs.

This Bluetooth remote is also an ideal companion to the eWeLink app. The app handles setup, schedules and automations, while a physical button is the fastest way to switch something on right now. It is handy for family members who don't want to install the app, or for children who don't have a phone. If you are building your home with SmartWise devices, the BT4 is the easiest way to add classic button control to them.

It is powered by one CR2032 coin cell battery (3 V), included in the package, so the remote is ready to pair right out of the box. The model is also listed in catalogues under the code SMW-KIE-BT4 or SMWKIEBT4, comes in white or black and weighs only 27 g.

Important before buying: the remote is not compatible with Sonoff devices that have the eWeLink-Remote HUB function (for example Sonoff Mini R3 and R4, Basic R4, Dual R3, M5 Matter switches or Sonoff Wi-Fi+Bluetooth bulbs with hub function). It is designed exclusively for SmartWise devices with an eWeLink-Remote receiver.

• eWeLink app: used to set up the receiver and pair the remote. Pressing the button itself needs neither the app nor the internet.
• Sonoff with eWeLink-Remote HUB function: not compatible (Sonoff Mini R3/R4, Basic R4, Dual R3, M5 Matter, Sonoff Bluetooth bulbs with hub function).
• Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread, RF 433 MHz: not supported. The remote therefore does not work with Home Assistant, Zigbee gateways or RF receivers.
