👁️‍🗨️ Sonoff SNZB-06P - The most affordable human presence sensor

This sensor is not a regular motion sensor! It is a presence sensor. This means that to be detected by this sensor, you don't even have to lift a finger. It detects you even when you are reading, lying motionless in front of the TV, or sleeping. The sensor works with microwave radar technology and needs as little as breathing or basic body functions to detect presence. 

This puts this sensor into a completely different category of home automation. You no longer have to worry about the sensor turning off the light in your living room just because you haven't moved on the couch for a long time. Bathroom automation also becomes flawless. 

This sensor knows about you

Thanks to 5.8GHz microwave detection, this sensor detects you whether you are moving or simply sitting still. This eliminates the biggest problem that traditional motion sensors have. Since the sensor does not need movement to detect your presence, the lights will never turn off on you while reading or watching TV again. That is, unless you want them to.

If you use automation in your home, you are certainly familiar with these issues. As soon as there is a moment without movement in the room, the countdown to turn off the light begins... Thanks to the presence sensor, this problem is beautifully resolved.

Turns on only when necessary

The Sonoff presence sensor also has a built-in light intensity detector. This means it knows whether or not it is necessary to turn the lights on. You can set your light automation to the highest level.

Automate your space exactly how you want

With the presence sensor, all possibilities are available. For example, when you leave the room, you can have the light intensity reduced, and when you haven't been there for 5 minutes, let the light turn off completely. When you arrive, the light immediately turns on again.

Local scenes without the cloud

The Sonoff presence sensor is a Zigbee device. This means it connects to a Zigbee hub. This solution is local, and thanks to this, the automation is independent of whether or not you have internet access (depends on the hub). You don't have to limit yourself and can set up your home just the way you like it.

Compatibility with Smart Home systems

A huge advantage of this sensor is that it communicates directly via Zigbee. Thanks to this, it is recognized by standard Zigbee hubs, not just Sonoff. You can use this sensor in Amazon Echo, SmartThings, and even FIBARO or Home Assistant. The system uses a motion sensor template, so from the perspective of the system you are using it in, you basically have the same info as with a motion sensor. The difference is that this sensor will report motion even when you are not moving.

However, this template means that the sensor is recognized even in systems that do not native support presence sensors. This gives this sensor a real edge over, for example, the Aqara presence sensor, which is WiFi-based and requires the Aqara app for setup.

The first presence sensor for the FIBARO system

This is truly great news. You can also use this sensor in the FIBARO HC3 system (not HC3L), as adding it via Zigbee will allow this. When adding the sensor to FIBARO, the mentioned light intensity sensor will not appear in the system, but that is only a minor flaw. The sensor is fast enough, and even trying our best to trick it during tests, we failed, and the sensor always knew we were there.

Presence sensor for Home Assistant too

Using ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT, you can easily integrate this sensor into HA. It is the cheapest way to detect human presence. 

Installation is as simple as always

You can install the Sonoff presence sensor magnetically, by sticking it, or screwing it to the wall. In the package, you will find a simple magnetic mount that you attach to the wall according to your preference, and you just place the sensor into it. 

Thanks to the magnetic attachment, you can then direct it exactly as you need. This sensor, like other presence sensors, must be constantly powered. This is ensured using a USB-C adapter and cable included in the package. The USB-C 2A adapter for power is not included. 

However, the package also includes cable clips so that the installation can be done as neatly as possible, preventing the cable from just hanging there. 

Three sensitivity levels and a range of up to 4 meters

The sensor can be set to 3 sensitivity levels. This is done by simply double-pressing the button directly on the sensor. After double-pressing, the sensor will blink 1, 2, or 3 times depending on the level it is in. You can fine-tune the sensitivity so that the detection range is from 2.5m to 4 meters. This setting can also be adjusted via the eWeLink app.

Difference between a motion and presence sensor

Let's use a simple table again to show what a motion sensor and a presence sensor can detect. It is important to note here that even the best motion sensor in our offer, the Faradite motion sensor, cannot detect motion when you are not moving at all. It is excellent and can see even the slightest movement, but it has to be movement. With the Sonoff presence sensor, you don't have to move at all, just be there.
