The Sonoff M5 series smart wall switches represent a massive leap forward in home automation. This specific model introduces two key innovative benefits: native support for the universal Matter smart home standard, and a specially narrowed chassis designed to allow (with the purchase of an outer frame) seamless side-by-side mounting of multiple switches in adjacent wall boxes.

What Does Matter Support Mean?

By integrating the Matter protocol, this switch gives you absolute freedom to choose your preferred smart home ecosystem. You are no longer locked into the eWeLink app. The switch can be directly and natively paired via your local network to platforms like Apple Home (HomeKit), Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or Samsung SmartThings. For Apple users, this means direct lighting control and scene creation natively inside the Home app without needing any third-party bridges or software.

Local Responsiveness and Reliability

Because it utilizes the Matter standard, the communication between the switch and your smart home hub (such as an Apple TV or Google Nest) happens entirely locally over your Wi-Fi network, without relying on external cloud servers. This results in lightning-fast response times and guarantees that your essential automations will keep working even if your internet connection goes down.

Tactile Design and Classic Feel

Despite being a highly advanced smart device, Sonoff maintained the excellent ergonomics of traditional tactile push buttons. The switch responds to a satisfying physical click, meaning you can easily turn on the lights even with wet hands or while wearing gloves (unlike typical flat glass capacitive touch switches).
