Shelly Wall Display X1i wall control panel: your smart home at a single touch 

Shelly Wall Display X1i is a touchscreen smart home panel with a 4" colour screen that you install in a standard electrical wall box in place of a regular switch. From one spot you control lights, appliances, heating and air conditioning, trigger scenes and see how much energy the room is using right now. Nobody in the household, and no guest, needs a phone or an app.

The X1i (manufacturer code SAWD-6A1XX10EU0) belongs to the new Wall Display i-series generation. Compared with the original Wall Display it brings a faster quad-core processor, Wi-Fi 6 with 5 GHz support, 8 GB of storage and an interchangeable power base with a relay that you can later swap for a two-output version.

At the heart of the panel is a quad-core Rockchip RK3326-S processor (1.5 GHz) with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB of storage running Android 11. In practice the tiles on screen respond instantly and switching between rooms or scenes is smooth. The 720 × 720 px display with 5-point capacitive touch stays readable even in bright daylight.

Included in the box is a single-output power base (1-Output Power Base) with a built-in 5 A relay and an input for an external switch or push button. The panel therefore switches the light that your old switch used to control, and on top of that it controls all other Shelly devices on your network. If you need to switch two independent circuits, simply replace the base with the separately sold Shelly 2-Output Power Base; the display stays the same.

The panel has a built-in light sensor, proximity sensor, gesture control and microphone. The screen wakes up when you walk up to it or with a simple gesture, and you can use the measured light level in automations, for example to switch on a light only when the room is really dim.

One thing to keep in mind for heating and air conditioning control: the X1i has no built-in temperature and humidity sensor. To measure the room climate, pair it with a compatible Shelly BLU H&T ZB or Shelly BLU H&T Display ZB sensor. You can then set the temperature from the panel, turn on a dehumidifier or fan based on current humidity and prevent mould in the bathroom or basement.

The built-in 1 W speaker plays notifications and alarms. For better sound you can connect the panel to a Bluetooth speaker or a Sonos system and control the music in the room right from the panel. 

You can customise the home screen to suit you: put the actions you use most at the top and assign your own gestures to everyday tasks. The black version with its aluminium frame and glass looks elegant in a living room as well as an office.
