Shelly BLU H&T Display ZB in black is a battery-powered temperature and humidity sensor that not only sends current readings to your smart home system, but also shows them right on a clear e-paper display. Alongside temperature and humidity it tracks the light level in the room and has a built-in digital clock with date.

At just 9 mm thick it is one of the slimmest display sensors on the market – it doesn't look like extra tech, but like a small accessory on a shelf or wall. Thanks to support for Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth 5.0 you can choose which ecosystem to connect it to, and the CR2032 batteries last about two years.

Everything about your room climate at a glance

With an ordinary Zigbee temperature sensor you first have to open the app to find out how warm the room is. This room thermometer and hygrometer gives you the answer before you can even reach for your phone – the display shows the time, temperature and relative humidity at once, plus battery status and active connection icons.

The display is e-paper, so it doesn't glow and won't disturb you at night. It reads like paper – sharply and from an angle – and only uses power when a value actually changes. Four quick presses of the button switch to inverted view, so you can choose between dark text on a light background and light text on a dark one. The same button also switches °C to °F, the 24-hour format to 12-hour, or the clock to the date.

The third sensor inside the device is a light sensor that distinguishes three levels – light, dim and dark. On the display you see them as bars next to the connection icons, and in automations they work as a trigger: when the living room gets dim, you can switch on a lamp without adding another detector to the room. In complete darkness the sensor switches to power-saving mode, stops redrawing the display and saves the battery – while still reporting data wirelessly.

The sensor comes in two colour versions – the black one on this page, and a white one. Dimensions, features and box contents are identical in both cases; only the colour of the plastic differs.

Dual wireless support is this model's strongest argument. Over Zigbee 3.0 you can connect it to any Zigbee gateway – Home Assistant with ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT, Samsung SmartThings or another hub – and it becomes part of a mesh network that is robust and doesn't load your Wi-Fi. Over Bluetooth 5.0 LE you can pair it with the Shelly Smart Control app if you already have any Shelly Plus, Pro, Gen3 or Gen4 device working as a BLE gateway. Placement is not limited in any way. In the box you will find a desk stand, built into the back are magnets (they stick straight onto a fridge or a switchboard), and a metal plate with adhesive tape for the wall is included as well – so installation needs no drilling and no work on the wiring.
