Product detailed description
Zigbee Motion and Light Sensor Sonoff SNZB-03PR2
SenseGuard Motion Gen2 is a PIR motion sensor from Sonoff that, in addition to standard motion detection, also measures ambient light intensity in lux. Thanks to this combination, it can turn on the light only when it is truly necessary – meaning upon detecting motion while ambient light levels are low. The device communicates via Zigbee 3.0, requiring a Zigbee gateway or hub for full functionality.

Motion detection is handled by a fast PIR sensor that captures movement within 3 seconds, with a re-trigger interval configurable from 5 to 60 seconds – shorter duration yields more frequent alerts, while longer duration reduces unnecessary triggers when walking through the same room. Simultaneously, the independent light sensor stores light level history for up to 6 months, allowing you to review changes in room brightness via the eWeLink app and fine-tune your automations accordingly.
The motion sensor with light measurement is also ideal for security automations – upon unexpected motion, it can trigger an alarm on the Zigbee gateway, send a mobile notification, or initiate recording on a connected camera.
Installation is completely non-invasive – you can mount the motion sensor magnetically, with double-sided adhesive tape, or using screws, and then adjust the sensor head to prevent capturing pet movement. A separate ceiling mount enclosure will also be available starting July 2026. Thanks to Zigbee 3.0 (IEEE 802.15.4) and an open protocol, the sensor works seamlessly with Home Assistant via Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA (requires script), SmartThings hubs, and via a Matter bridge (e.g., Sonoff ZBBridge-U) with Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa. If you are looking for a complementary presence sensor with an even wider detection range, check out the Sonoff Zigbee 24GHz Presence Sensor (SNZB-06P24), which operates using radar technology and can detect stationary human presence.

Who Is This Sensor Suitable For
- For households wanting to control hallway, staircase, and entrance lighting based on real motion and light levels rather than simple timers.
- For pet owners – the adjustable sensor head minimizes false alarms caused by cats and dogs.
- For advanced Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT users who prefer local, cloud-independent automations.
- For Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa users who have or plan to acquire a Zigbee/Matter gateway.
- For renters and homeowners looking for a solution that requires no changes to electrical wiring – the sensor is battery-powered.
Use Cases
- Automatic hallway lighting at night – lights turn on only when motion is detected during low ambient light, remaining off during the day even if someone passes by.
- Security alerts while away – the motion sensor sends a notification and triggers camera recording upon detecting unexpected movement inside the home.
- Staircase and garage lighting – with a fast response time under 3 seconds, the light turns on before you step onto the first stair.
- Monitoring light conditions in greenhouses or workshops – up to 6 months of illumination history helps optimize grow light automations.
- Welcome home scenes – combining motion and ambient light triggers your favorite lighting scene as soon as you arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I pair the sensor with a Zigbee gateway?
You can add the sensor via the eWeLink app or directly through your Zigbee gateway interface (e.g., Sonoff ZBBridge). Simply activate pairing mode on the sensor (lasts 180 seconds), and the hub/gateway will automatically discover and connect to it.
Do I need a separate Zigbee gateway for this sensor?
Yes, the sensor communicates via Zigbee 3.0 and will not work without a gateway or a compatible USB coordinator (e.g., for Home Assistant). Suitable options include the Sonoff ZBBridge-U, NSPanel Pro, or iHost.
Does the sensor work with Apple Home, Google Home, or Alexa?
Yes, but indirectly – via a Matter bridge (such as ZBBridge-U or eWeLink CUBE), the sensor also appears in Apple Home. For Google Home and Alexa, it works via cloud integration with your eWeLink account, though availability of certain features (e.g., lux values) may be limited.
Can I add the sensor to Home Assistant?
Yes, it works locally without limitations via the Zigbee2MQTT integration. For ZHA integration, an additional script is currently required – detailed instructions can be found in the Sonoff Help Center.
How long does the battery last?
Under normal usage, up to 3 years on a single CR2477 battery. Actual battery life depends on reporting frequency and Zigbee signal strength to the gateway.
I cannot pair the sensor, what should I do?
Check that the battery is correctly inserted and that the sensor is within range of the Zigbee gateway. If pairing fails, reset the sensor by holding the button on the bottom, and try pairing again closer to the gateway.
Why is the sensor reporting inaccurate light levels?
Varying sensor orientation can cause inconsistent brightness readings. Secure the sensor position and use the calibration feature in the eWeLink app to fine-tune the measured values.
What is the difference compared to the older SNZB-03P model?
Gen2 adds an independent light sensor with up to 6 months of illumination history and calibration support, whereas the older SNZB-03P only provided simple day/night status. Motion detection is also more sensitive with extended range.
Will pets trigger the sensor?
The sensor operates on PIR technology and reacts to heat signature changes, meaning cats and dogs with body temperatures similar to humans can cause false alarms. The solution is to angle the sensor head away from areas where pets move around.
What is included in the package, and what is the warranty?
The package includes the motion sensor, CR2477 battery, mounting accessories (magnetic mount, double-sided tape), and a quick guide. The product comes with a 2-year warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Can the sensor be mounted on a ceiling?
Yes, a dedicated enclosure for ceiling mounting will be available starting July 2026. Standard mounting options include magnetic attachment, double-sided tape, or wall screws.
